Congratulations to all for “Sharing the Love” of their Leos
If you haven’t tried therapy with your Leo, please contact me and get
started. It is a wonderful way to give back to your community. Your Leo will
have a good time, the patients/children will love it and you will feel
really good about what you have done by sharing your Leo with others.

Recap of a wonderful event:

It is hard to believe that another LCA National Specialty week has come and gone. As the co-chair of this year’s specialty it is even more unbelievable that the week is over after spending the last two years working to bring this event together. I am thrilled to report that Green Mountain Leos was a rousing success! I would like to personally thank my amazing co-chair, Elizabeth Burnham, for her tireless efforts and nonstop work. She is truly the energizer bunny! I would also like to thank each and every one of our volunteers. I will not do this by name as I don’t want to miss anyone, but you all know who you are. Without the army of volunteers that worked so hard on this event it would not have been the tremendous success that it was. Three cheers to all of our volunteers!!!!!!

There are so many volunteering opportunities within the club – both at a continual level (serving on a committee) or at an event level. I encourage each of you to seek out a volunteer opportunity. It is a great way to learn more about our breed and club operations and to meet other club members. For me it is the most rewarding way that I can give back to the wonderful Leonbergers I have had (and currently have) the pleasure of sharing my life with.

Green Mountain Leos really had something to offer every person and every dog. We had two days of rally and obedience, four days (1 club show, 2 AKC shows) of conformation and the draft test. On Friday evening we also had our first ever stud parade, which raised over $1000 for the LHF! We tried something new with our working dog seminars, and we know we need to work on improving our communication around those so they will be better attended in the future. There was a ringside buffet dinner on Wednesday night during
Sweeps and non-regular conformation. We had two sit down dinners, Friday and Saturday. On Saturday evening we also did our dog and people awards – congratulations to all of our award winners)!

For the first time (to my knowledge) the LCA offered New Titleholder Ribbons. We handed out quite a few of these ribbons to dogs that earned their AKC Championship, obedience titles, rally titles and draft titles. Speaking of draft we had nine draft teams participate in our test this year, and a special round of applause goes to our first ever LCA draft test qualifying team – Cindy Atwood and Questa (Questa von Stutensee)! Congratulations to everyone that participated in rally, obedience, draft and/or conformation with their Leos. You are all winners for putting in time to build a bond with your dog and train for any of these events.

The Burlington Sheraton, our host hotel, was wonderful and very accommodating to our dogs and guests. This was the first dog show they have hosted, and they would love to have us back! Thank you everyone for cleaning up after your dogs and respecting the hotel grounds and rooms. Downtown Burlington and the surrounding area offered so much for our guests and dogs, and I have heard a lot of great feedback about how welcoming the town was.

Welcome to our new board members – Amy Garabedian, Agi Hejja and Ginny Bartholomay. I look forward to working with each of you on the LCA Board. Thank you to our departing board members – Don James, Karen Zedeker and Beth O’Connor. Beth has served an incredible 8 years as our LCA President – job well done Beth!
